Brittany is our oldest child. She is 14 years old. Brittany is a smart, well-rounded child with many interests. She likes to play soccer and volleyball and is in the honor band at school. She plays the flute. Brittany will be entering the 9th grade (freshman year of high school) this August.
Well, updating has not been a big thing for quite some time. Obviously, a lot has happened in over a year's time, so I won't bore everyone with minor details. I'll try to go over highlights of the past year.
Well, one six weeks is over...only five more to go until summer! Things are getting ready to slow down soon. Soccer season ends Nov. 1 and volleyball end Oct. 23. I'm sure Brittany will be happy to have a nice little break. Her volleyball team is doing so-so, but Brittany seems to really enjoy playing. She was struggling with her serves for awhile, but something seems to have clicked. Her soccer team has been mostly playing well. Brittany's been playing good and although she hates going to practice, I think she really enjoys the games.
Brittany is doing well in school. She received her report card and had five A's and one B. She was not thrilled about the B. Her Honors Band had to perform in a district-wide band festival last night. It was boring from this parent's view, but hopefully Brittany enjoyed it.
Brittany has an orthodontist appointment Thursday and I think her ortho might be putting on her bottom braces this time. I guess we'll just have to see. I'm sure Brittany isn't looking forward to it, but I'm sure she figures the sooner she can start wearing them, the faster she'll be out of them.
13. Thirteen. T-H-I-R-T-E-E-N. Brittany turned 13 last month. She is now a teenager...and the fun begins. As is the case with most days, soccer delayed her having a party, but fortunately she was able to have a belated party where she invited some friends, went to the mall and had a sleepover.
Brittany went in yesterday to get an orthodontic appliance. It is a palate spreader, which she'll probably wear for a few months. I'm sure it's uncomfortable and hard to get used to. Hopefully she'll get the hang of eating solid foods and speaking clearly soon.
On the soccer front, Brittany's team has basically fell apart. A few girls left and the team just went everywhere. Brittany was wanting to stay with Michael as her coach, but she is moving on now...although we are hoping Michael is able to make a move to her new club. It's been a difficult transition (and quite honestly, difficult for old Mom here too because these are people we see at least three times a week). Brittany has kept her head up, though, and I think she will do well with this change.
Brittany got braces the other day. She has been wanting them for quite a long time. She figured she'd rather get them now and have the whole process over with before she goes through high school. She got turquoise and baby blue bands to go around the brackets. I guess she wants to make the experience as stylish as possible.
Brittany returned from an SMU Mustangs summer camp Wednesday. This was the first non-school related camp she'd been to. Some of the people involved made it a less than great experience, but I think she enjoyed and learned a lot from the soccer experience. She had some really nice girls from the SMU Women's team, along with the staff, work with her and I really liked their program. I wish it would have been more fun socially, but she did meet a few nice girls.
Today's the first day of Brittany's re-designed page. A lot has happened since the last updates to this website. Brittany completed the 6th grade, her first year in middle school. She seemed to enjoy her new school very much. She did well academically, although she was a bit upset because she got a couple "B"s on her report cards. She's been playing soccer pretty much year round. I think she still enjoys playing soccer, but I think she is getting tired of the amount of time it takes.
We re-decorated Brittany's room last year. She got a new comforter set for her birthday that had blues, purples and aquas in in and we changed the walls to reflect the pattern of her comforter. She had a canopy bed but we took off the canopy.

She used to get mad when Steve would tell her there was dog called a Brittany Spaniel...she insisted he was making it up.
